Basic Rules For Cleaning Granite Countertops

1. Make Sure Your Granite Countertop Is Sealed

Although granite is known to be a very durable surface that is less porous than marble, unsealed granite will absorb spills, oils and stains. If you are uncertain about whether your granite counters need to be sealed, drop a small amount of water on the surface. If the water drops soak right up, this will let you know that your countertops need to be sealed. Be sure to contact a professional and have them come service your countertops in order to avoid further damage. If you see the water drops bead off of the surface tops then this means the sealent is still good, so in this case, you should not worry.

2. Removing Stains With Soap & Water

When cleaning your granite countertops, you should simply use some lukewarm water, a mild dish detergent, and a soft washcloth. Get the washcloth wet in the warm soapy water blend. Then begin to wipe off your countertops until all stains are removed.

3. Do Not Use Harsh Cleaning Liquids

You must steer far away from acidic liquids like lime juice, lemon juice, vinegar and any solutions containing ammonia or bleach. When these synthetic substances are utilized to clean the granite countertops more than needed, it will make the sealant debilitate & dull. Sealants separate a lot quicker anytime you use harsh liquids. The harsher the cleaner is, the quicker the sealant will break down.

4. Always Use A Gentle Cloth

An abrasive sponge or washcloth can potentially scratch your countertops so a gentle cloth is key! Again always use warm water and mild or gentle dish soap for daily wipe-downs.
